Gallop Into Reading

Reading in the presence of a horse can have profound benefits for a child (or adult), both emotionally and developmentally. The calm and rhythmic presence of a horse can create a soothing environment that reduces stress and anxiety, making it easier for children to focus on their reading. Horses are non-judgmental listeners, which can boost confidence and motivation, especially for those struggling with literacy. Additionally, the peaceful setting of a ranch or stall fosters a sense of connection with nature, enhancing relaxation and overall well-being. This unique experience can make reading more enjoyable and engaging, encouraging a lifelong love of books.  When a child or adult reads to a horse, the horse benefits from the calming, rhythmic sound of the persons voice, which can help reduce stress and anxiety.  This program is open to children age 5 and above.

Reading can be done either inside or outside of the horses stall depending on the comfort level of the participant.  Laura has a degree in Elementary Education and is a current substitute teacher in San Diego.  If an adult participant would rather read in a solitary environment, we are happy to set that up outside of a stall.  For children, Laura will be present and can be in a tutoring or reading assistance manner either inside our outside of the stall.  Group sessions are also available for children 12 and over with chaperones.
